Why a Safety Gate alert is your problem too
Under the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR, Regulation (EU) 2023/988, applicable since 13 December 2024), economic operators have active duties — an alert about a similar product is often the trigger.
Only safe products on the market
Importers and distributors may only place or make available products that are safe. "We just resell it" is not a defence.
Importer verification duties
Before importing, verify that the manufacturer has technical documentation, correct labelling, traceability information and a responsible person in the EU.
Immediate notification
If you have reason to believe a product you placed on the market is dangerous, you must immediately inform the market surveillance authorities via the Safety Business Gateway — and act.
Recalls & consumer information
Where a recall is needed, affected consumers must be notified directly where possible, and the recall notice must follow the mandatory GPSR format.
